Travel Belize

I first visited Belize by accident. I mixed up the country of Belize, Central America, with a Caribbean Island and made travel plans that couldn’t be cancelled. What a great mistake!

Don’t get me wrong. Belize is not paradise. It’s a third world country trying its best to survive in a global economy and that’s tough when you don’t have geysers of oil or something like that to sustain you.

But Belize is a small and friendly nation of approximately 280,000 people with one border on the Caribbean Sea and another in the shadows of the Mayan Mountains. Children are educated in English from their first day at school and the justice and parliamentary systems are based on English models. And, most notably, it’s not yet over-run by tourists who want an all-inclusive, gated, resort experience with a built in disconnect with the local community.

As we traveled Belize from town to town, meeting Belizeans and tourists from countries around the world, we realized that there are many people, maybe like you, who want something more. There are people in increasing numbers who want to plan their own trip, do their own research, make their own reservations by going on-line and communicating directly with their host or hostess.

Think Belize was written for the traveler who wants to have a cultural experience and a good time at a good price. My 40 page+ travelogue with attachments, updated every year, offers you a background on Belize and some on-the-ground tips about the country that might help you avoid un-necessary mistakes that are often made the first time you travel to a new country. After that, it’s up to you.
